A Healthy and Aware 2015

L’Chaim! Here’s to cultivating a healthy awareness of our thougths, actions, and choices. I’m renewing the dance with a commitment to posting garden and cooking ideas to nourish our bodies, and word and art ideas to nourish our minds and souls. I hope you’ll join me in setting healthy intentions for 2015…for as Annie Dillard says in one of my favorite books, The Writing Life, “How we spend our days, is, of course, how we spend our lives.”

Dive into the January garden at the Granada Treehouse accompanied by one of my favorite Wendell Berry poems from his collection, The Mad Farmer Poems:

The Man Born to Farming
The grower of trees, the gardener, the man born to farming,
whose hands reach into the ground and sprout,
to him the soil is a divine drug. He enters into death
yearly, and comes back rejoicing. He has seen the light lie down
in the dung heap, and rise again in the corn.
His thought passes along the row ends like a mole.
What miraculous seed has he swallowed
that the unending sentence of his love flows out of his mouth
like a vine clinging in the sunlight, and like water
descending in the dark?
